Horseback riding in Los Higos

This morning Arlene took the semester students and me on a trail ride through the mountains around Los Higos. The scenery was amazing, and unfortunately I didn't get very good (or very many) pictures. Nor did I do a good job of getting a good picture of everyone in the group, but anyway, here are a few pictures:

A view from one of the mountains...sorry I don't have better pictures. This completely does not do it justice.

I know this picture is blurry and crummy, but the little river was pretty, so whatever.

Riding along the river.

A little problem with tack, lol. The Dominican guy is our guide. And that's Todd on the left.

Back at Los Higos: this is Jon, Sarah, and Carrie.

Arlene (and Joel in the background).

Oh! I got my very first glimpse of Dominican wildlife today--a mammal, not a bird, a lizard, or a bug. Not sure what it was (we were riding by and it scurried into the bushes) but it was brown, furry, a little smaller than a cat, and had a short tail. The first thing that popped into my head was that it might be something like a small groundhog. But I guess I'll never know....
