I love flying...I could do it all day! I love the feeling of the plane. We had some turbulence going from Miami to Santiago, which was really fun! I once toyed with the idea of being an airline stewardess, but who wants to deal with cranky passengers?
So, I got into Santiago at 7 p.m. Thursday night, right on schedule (and wow, is it humid here! It was 85 degrees at 7 p.m.!). I had been awake since 3 a.m. and was completely bushed, but the excitment started to kick in and I was good for another few hours!
I went ahead and unpacked all my clothes right when we got to Slabachs' house, then Chastity and I had our first bonding moment while we hunted down an ugly cockroach that had the nerve to hide under her bedskirt, lol. Unfortunately, we lost him. Yes, there are nasty bugs here, but except for birds and lizards, there's relatively NO wildlife. You could camp out in Timbuktu and encounter nothing scarier than spiders. Strange thought, isn't it?
I don't have anything big planned today except finishing unpacking and checking in with my college assignments to make sure I'm still on top of things. Right now we have five college students from Bethel staying at the base for their orientation before they move into Dominican homes with host families for the rest of the semester. I'll get to meet them this morning in about...half an hour.
Some photos for you:
This is the outside of the Slabachs' house. It's well-kept, which makes it gorgeous, but it's also very simply and practially furnished. We have plastic tables and chairs for dining room furniture.
This is Chastity's and my room. It's clean...for now! And I actually made my bed. Our bathroom is to the right.
This photo I'm posting specifially for my sisters. A word to the wise: never buy cheap luggage. I hardly recognized my bag when it came through the baggage claim! It looks like it's been through a war! It's stretched and torn in a couple of places, and I have no idea how all the black stuff got on the front. Oh, and by the way, I think the whole world is switching from classic black luggage to red. I was hoping mine would stand out at the airport, but there were a million red bags.
