Jarabacoa celebrated it's 150th anniversary this past week. There are posters highlighting historic events displayed at a place downtown and every night there have been concerts (and sometimes fireworks!) in a vacant lot not far from where we live. Last night Katie, Christian, Chastity, a Dominincan girl from church named Laura, and myself went to the concert for a while (there's a video below). I have never been in such a crush of people in my life! The lot was PACKED; the five of us linked arms and snaked or pushed our way through to find a pocket of space to stand it. It was great fun! (Troyers are in the States right now, or Alicia would have been with us too.)
Chastity and I have the house to ourselves this weekend. While Nate and Maggie were in the States a few weeks ago getting Andrea settled in at college, SI payed for a staff weekend getaway to the beach. Since they missed that weekend, SI payed for them to go this weekend. Arlene is taking the semester students on an excursion to the northwest part of the D.R., so Chatty and I are home alone. We've been enjoying ourselves, eating box-mix macaroni and cheese, Captain Crunch with Berries, lemon cupcakes, and--especially--box-mix chocolate pudding! (Lol, we have had a few healthy things too, like eggs and toast!) But it's been fun!
Sometimes it's hard to find things to do, though. Yesterday I had to do school in the morning, but after taking a half-hour walk around town we just lounged around at home and watched a movie in the afternoon.
In the evening we were invited to Christian's house to celebrate his brother's graduation, and then later we went to the concert. Chastity and I watched "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants" when we got home, so we didn't get to bed until 1 a.m. But today is Sunday, and we don't have church until 4 p.m. so we can sleep!
